DEFINE EDUCATIONAL SOCIOLOGY

INTRODUCTION :

Sociology is the science of society. No other science endeavor to study it in its entirely . Sociology which is known as the science of society ,is one of the youngest as well as one of the oldest social sciences .Its major concern is society ,and hence it is popularly known as the " Science of Society " . But ,if we are to understand the entire scope of the subject ,how it is to be  study  studied , what sociology do ,how they do , what methods they follow , what  problems they face in their studies , it is necessary to know the meaning  of Science and the classification of science into physical and social.
Sociology , according to Duncan is the scientific study of dynamic processes of interaction of person and the patterns  these from in relation to biological , psychological , and cultural influences .It studies social phenomena ,social organization and cultural patterns .It seeks  to discover the laws that govern the social relations and the forces that develop the personality of an individual .It is built upon the study of the behavior of ants , birds , and primitive men. It has drawn for its material on social history and social physics .It has received impetus from biology and psychology.






ORIGIN OF SOCIOLOGY :

Sociology has a long past but only a short history .Sociology is one of the youngest sciences because only recently it come to be established as a distinct branch of knowledge with its own distinct set of concept and its own methods of inquiry. Since the dawn of civilisation  , society has been a subject  foe speculation and inquiry along with other phenomena which have agitated the restless and inquisitive mind of man .
Sociology came to be established as a separated discipline in the 19th century due to the effort of the French philosopher Auguste  Comote , It is only in the 19th century that systematic attempts were made by Auguste Comote , Spencer , Durkheim , Weber and other to study society and establish  a science of society  called " SOCIOLOGY " .
Auguste Comote call the father of sociology. The word sociology  has been derived from two words- 'Societus'  which means society and 'Logos' which means science . Thus from an etymological point of view 'sociology is the science of society'.

DEFINITIONS :

(1) Kingsley Davis says that " sociology is a general science of society ".
(2) Harry M. Johnson opines that  " sociology is the science that deals with social groups ".
(3) Emile Durkheim defines sociology as  the " science of institutions ".
(4) Park regards sociology as " the science of collective behavior " .
(5) Small defines sociology as " the science of social relation ".



EDUCATIONAL SOCIOLOGY :

Educational sociology is a synthesis of education and sociology .It is the study of the principles of sociology of education .It is a born of science .According to E.  George Payne , known as the father of educational sociology , educational sociology is 'an applied science in the field of sociology' . It is concerned  ' with the effect of learning on group life and in its turn the effect of smaller group life upon the larger group ' , since the subject matter of educational sociology is the process of social interaction . 'Of both the individual and his social environment ' , says  F.G. Brown , it is ' neither education nor sociology alone , it is education and sociology when these are  both considered as a total educative process'. Educational sociology utilizes all that has been learned in both fields but joins them in a new science which applies sociological principles  to thwe whole process of education , including subject matter and activities , methods , school organization , and measurement .
                                        Educational sociology is not merely theoretical ,i.e., it does not merely study forces of interaction between the individual and the individual and the society or the group , but it is also practical because besides studying the interaction forces , it tries to regulate and control the interacting forces . Educational sociology is a brunch of general sociology which deals with such issues and problems of social interaction that process educative value and significance and which could bring about socially  desirable ends in peaceful and efficient manner . Educational sociology applies the principles , laws , techniques and methods of general sociology both inside and out sides of the school.

DEFINITIONS OF EDUCATIONAL SOCIOLOGY :

1. According to E.George Payne , known a father of educational sociology ,"educational sociology is an applied science in the field of sociology ".
2. According to Cater , " educational sociology is the study of those phases of sociology that are significance foe education process".

AIMS OF EDUCATIONAL SOCIOLOGY :

The aims of educational sociology as follows .....................
1. To understand the role of education as an instrument of social progress.
2. To study the role of a teacher as a leading member of society or community.
3. To acquaint the individual with the social progress and its influence upon the individual .
4. To apply the findings of reach on the field of sociology foe the betterment of the various aspects of education.
5. To frame the curriculum of education on the basis of sociological principle .
6.To understand the basic factor of culture economic social and democratic trends in the modern world in relation to the agencies of education.

NATURE/CHARACTERSTICS/FETURES OF EDUCATIONAL SOCIOLOGY :

The main activity of the educational sociology is to find out means and ways as to how manipulated the education process to achieve better personality development and thus better      social    control.
Besides this the nature of educational sociology can be identify as follow--------
1. Men is a social being .Educational sociology recognize  the social nature of men and plans according .
2.Educational sociology determine the individuality of an individual in the society .
3. Educational sociology is a dynamic and ever changing process.
4. It makes and effort  to know the relationship between individual and society.
5. It deals with the participations of the individual in the different social functions and organizations.
6. It enables the individuals to develop a great deal of adjust capacity to compromise with every situation of the society .
7. Educational sociology helps us to provide sound social basis for educational research .
8. Educational sociology studies the cause of social and group conflicts with is to be removed by imparting education.
9. Educational sociology acts as a bridge between society and education system as it studied the relationship between the society and education .
10.  Educational sociology  paves the way for independent living of the child in the society.

CONCLUSION :

From the above discussion we can say that sociology is the science of the society , and educational sociology is a branch of  sociology which  deals with such issues and problems of  society. And help to find out ways and means of  such problems and issues .
