INTRODUCATION   :


Curriculam is an important part of education.Originaly the term "curriculum " was releted to the concept of a course of studies followed by pupils in a teaching institution .But in the present day curriculum may be perceived us being a basic part of the broader area known as education.


MEANING OF CURRICULUM    :

The term curriculum is derived from the Latin word "Currer" which means run ,and it signifies arunway or 'a course which one runs to reach a goal '.The word curriculum was first used in Parise university (1576). Curriculum is that which is tought in schools.Curriculum is a set of materials , a set of subject , a set of content , a set of performence objectives .Curriculum is everything that goes on within the school ,including extra classes activities ,guidence and interpersonal relationships. Curriculum as a result of schooling .curriculum is include desire and goal.


 DIFINITIONS  OF CURRICULUM :

  • Alberty A and Alberty E (1959) define curriculum as ,"the sum of total of student activities which the school response for the purpose  of achiving its objectives"
  • H.Robert Back and Walter Cook , "curriculum is the sum of the educational experience that children have in school."
  • Bloom's Encyclopedia of education (1969) "curriculum as all experience a pupils has the guidence of the schools."
  • In the words of Cunninghum ,"curriculum is a tool in the hands of artist (teacher) to mould his material (pupils) according to his ideas (specefic objectives) in his studio ( classroom)."
  • According to RalpTyler,"the curriclum is allof the learning students which is planned by and directed by the school to attain its educational goals.




CHARACTERSTICS OF CURRICULUM     :

                                On the basis of the definitions given above , the following characterstics of the curriculum can be derived  -----

  • It reflacts the idea's, ideols, ideologists are asperation of the pupils of the nation.
  • It includes curriculur, co-curriculur and extra curriculur activities that the educational institution organised.
  • It is a means to reach the goals aims and objectives of education .
  • It is further devided into the course of studies ,syllabus,text books ,non-detail text andd practical experiences in the class-room,laboratory,works-shop and fields.
  • Teacher attitude towards students are also part of curriculum.
  • Curriculum helps in the teacher in determining educational aims and objectives.






OBJECTIVES OF CURRICULUM   :

  • To draw out cultivate ,excite and inspire the full development of each student.
  • To create an atmosphere in which student will learn to think critically and constructively and seek truth and solve problems.
  • To develop the character of students-integrity, honesty,judgment ,co-oparetion ,friendliness and good will.
